Harbour Place was constructed in 1942 as the Administration Building for the Key West Naval Air Station. The original naval station opened in 1823. During World War I, air craft and submarines were added to the station. The Administration Building provided office space for Truman staff, Eisenhower and the summit site for President John F. Kennedy and British Prime Minister Harold MacMillan 23 days before the Bay of Pigs invasion. The Naval Station was closed in March of 1974.
